Counsel Local

Privacy policy

Effective November 4, 2026

This policy explains what personal information the Counsel Local website collects, why, who receives it, and the choices you have. It applies to visitors in every U.S. state, and it includes the notices California law requires.

The short version

What we collect

What you give us

When you request early access, we receive what you type in the form: whether you're a lawyer, a new lawyer or a law student; your name; your email address; your firm or law school; your practice area; your state; and your optional note. Please don't include anything about your clients.

What is collected automatically

Our hosting provider records standard technical details when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, and the time. These records keep the site running and secure. The site also loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when the page loads.

We don't use cookies or similar tracking technology, and we don't track you across other websites.

How we use it

Who receives it

We use a few service providers that handle information only to provide their service to us:

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or as part of a sale or reorganization of the business. In that case, this policy would continue to apply to it.

We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as California and other states define those terms. We don't use or disclose sensitive personal information.

How long we keep it

We keep early-access requests and our emails with you for up to 24 months after our last contact, then delete them. If you become a customer, we keep what we need to run your account and meet our legal obligations. Hosting logs are kept for the short period our host sets.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

We don't sell or share personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of. We still honor Global Privacy Control signals and "Do Not Track" requests, although the site doesn't track you to begin with.

To make a request, email [email protected] from the address you gave us, or tell us how to reach you so we can confirm it's you. You can ask someone you authorize to make a request for you. We will need proof that they're authorized. We'll answer within 45 days. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and we'll respond to the appeal within 45 days. We won't treat you differently for using any of these rights.

The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS, and only the people who answer requests can see what you send. No method of sending or storing information is perfectly secure, so please don't put confidential client information in the form.
