Counsel Local is early software. During the trial, keep your usual calendar and systems running alongside it, and review everything it produces. Law students: practice with class materials and sample files, not real client documents.

Step 2

Download and install.

Counsel Local needs the key from your email to run. The key is checked on your computer; nothing about you or your work is sent anywhere.

To check your computer: on Windows, press the Windows key, type About your PC and press Enter. On a Mac, choose Apple menu → About This Mac. Setup checks too, and won't install on a computer that's too small.

Windows

Download for Windows
  1. Open the downloaded file. Windows may say "Windows protected your PC" because this early version isn't signed by Microsoft's certificate program yet. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  2. Setup checks your computer, then downloads the AI and its parts. Allow 15 to 30 minutes and keep the computer on.
  3. Open Counsel Local from your desktop. Create your account, write your recovery key on paper, and enter your trial key.

Mac

Download for Mac
  1. Open your Downloads folder. Safari unzips the download into a folder called Counsel Local Installer. (In other browsers, double-click the zip.)
  2. Double-click Install Counsel Local. Your Mac will say it can't verify it, because this early version isn't registered with Apple yet. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, click Open Anyway next to "Install Counsel Local", and confirm.
  4. A window shows setup's progress; you don't need to type anything. Allow 15 to 30 minutes and keep the Mac plugged in.
  5. Double-click Counsel Local on your Desktop. Create your account, write your recovery key on paper, and enter your trial key.
